This item ist o maintain a safe riding result im most conditions keeping the chain in line and on the front chainring minimalising any chain jump which may result in a the chain from jumping off the front ring  causing possible injuries.

This chain tensioner enables the rohlhoff hub to be used in frames with amll C shaped dropouts, the type which do not have any area behind the rear axle which will allow you to take up chain slack by pulling the wheel unit back,. this mecanisn attches to the rear dropout and tensions the chain in  front of the rear sprocket working in the same principal as a rear derraileur
